Angling is one of the nation’s biggest participation sports and it generates an annual expenditure of £3.3 billion. The rise in numbers of commercially-stocked fisheries in the UK is staggering and has seen a huge re-birth in carp, coarse and game fishing.
By studying fishing at Myerscough College you are giving yourself an excellent opportunity to secure a job in this exciting industry, with our courses covering a variety of topics including practical fishing activities, fishery management and fish farming.
As a fisheries student at Myerscough College, you will have the opportunity to maintain our carp and trout rearing facilities and help nurture and rear carp for sale into the fisheries industry. Helping you gain an understanding of fish development as well as vital employability skills.
At Myerscough College, our learners have access to our own on-site fish pond, fully stocked with our home grown fish. Our campus also benefits from easy access to the River Brock for some excellent freshwater fishing.
As part of the Food and Farming Innovation Technology (FFIT) development at Lodge Farm, we will be creating a rainwater fishery which will be three times the size of our existing fishery. Rainwater collected from the new beef unit will run into the fishery and ensure a steadily maintained ecosystem.
