Motorsport students hit top gear at Neil Howard Stages
Published: Wednesday 5 November 2025A group of motorsport students from Myerscough took on the task of running cars on the Neil Howard Stages, at the Oulton Park circuit.
The infamous Neil Howard Stages, with its slippery rally section, water splash and classic circuit sections, has become a favourite of competitors and spectators alike and something Myerscough Motorsport once again had the opportunity to be involved in, creating real sector experience opportunities for learners.
A group of students from the Competition Car Technology and Motorsport and Logistics Management programmes travelled to the circuit for a day of hands-on experience.

The event is one of a number of unique sector opportunities provided to Myerscough Motorsport learners, enabling the group to gain some real life experiences alongside their studies. Gaining this experience will enable students to develop skills needed for their future employment in motorsport once they complete their programmes.
The event proved to be a highly enjoyable opportunity for the students, who received excellent support from the Myerscough lecturing team ensuring they were well prepared for the weekend, and able to execute the tasks with a first class work ethic and attention to detail.
Ben Cordery, Lecturer in Motorsport Engineering at Myerscough College, said: ‘’While the weather was wet, cold, and typically British, it certainly didn’t dampen the team’s spirits.
‘’The students threw themselves into the challenge - working trackside, applying their theoretical knowledge in a live motorsport environment, and sharpening their practical skills under real conditions.
‘’It was a long, busy, and exhausting day, but one that was absolutely worthwhile. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between classroom learning and the fast-paced, unpredictable world of motorsport, preparing students for the realities and rewards of working in this incredible industry.
‘’A big well done to everyone who took part, your enthusiasm and teamwork were fantastic!
‘’A huge thank you as well to the organisers for giving the students the opportunity to get involved and gain experience working on their rally cars. It makes a real difference to their learning.’’
