Unforgettable experience for Myerscough students at Portugal Rugby Youth Festival

Myerscough College’s rugby students have enjoyed an unforgettable experience at Europe’s premier youth tournament – the Portugal Rugby Youth Festival.

The Portugal Rugby Youth Festival is considered to be the best European rugby tournament for youth teams, giving Myerscough students team an unforgettable enrichment experience both on and off the pitch. All matches were played within the Lisbon University Stadium Complex.

2024 was the 15th anniversary of the event.

This year the tournament saw Myerscough’s Under 19s qualifying in the top four sides in their age group to qualify for Finals Day, competing against Spanish and Portuguese sides including Granada, GDS Cascais, CDUP and GD Direito across the weekend.

Head of rugby at Myerscough, Steve Gough, commented: ‘’The trip was thoroughly enjoyable for our students.

‘’It was a team effort and we hope they all take fond memories from it. Well done to them all, they are a special group of young men.’’

The Myerscough College Rugby Academy is a joint venture in partnership with Sale Sharks Rugby and is the accredited RFU Elite Player Development Centre for the North West.

Our relationship with Sale Sharks and the RFU allows us to offer students a unique opportunity to train as professional athletes and secure a dream job in professional Rugby Union.
